DISTRICT 3 ISSUES

I’ve had the opportunity to work on many of the issues that are important to me and are a concern for our community. New ideas and paradigms for finding solutions are critical to our growth in resolving issues.

  • With the constant growth throughout Hawai'i island, the strain from our growing population is affecting our islandʻs infrastructure to the point of having hazardous roads and routes, the need for wastewater treatment plants, and the expansion for working water wells throughout various locations around Hawaiʻi island. I’ll work with the Council and CoH Departments in addressing these critical issues, and find solutions.

  • I support efforts to find creative solutions to alleviating the traffic concerns of lower Puna, and to find safe alternate routes through lower Puna, Waikoloa, and other locales throughout Hawai'i island. I’ll work hard in finding and assessing creative solutions.

  • Many Health and Safety concerns exist which limits our island’s pursuit of more affordable housing developments. We need a Governor and Mayor who collaborate on the needed State and Federal funding that’s required for large affordable housing projects. I’ll work with them.

  • We constantly need roads that are paved and safe to drive on throughout Hawai'i island. I will track these projects and support our hard-working road crews who do the work.

  • Our Police, Sheriffs, DLNR Police Officers, Water Safety Officers, and Prison officials require our community’s support to keep them safe and trained for the rudiments of their work. Investing in our Public Safety ultimately keeps our communities safe.

  • As a former Geothermal Operator who worked and trained at Puna Geothermal Venture in Kapoho, I was able to learn about the geothermal system that is the key to our island’s ability to keep our everyday electrical needs met and affordable. Hawai'i Island should be the model for alternative geothermal energy with technology that is advancing every day. Education is key for our communities to understand geothermal as a renewable resource, and realize its potential.
