"I’VE LEARNED THAT PEOPLE WILL FORGET WHAT YOU SAID, PEOPLE WILL FORGET WHAT YOU DID, BUT PEOPLE WILL NEVER FORGET HOW YOU MADE THEM FEEL" ~ MAYA ANGELOU
Welina mai, My name is Kaloa.
Aloha mai kākou!
What does Kaloa mean? Kaloa is a descriptive word commonly associated with different phases of the Hawaiian moon calendar. I was once told by a Kūpuna that my name was associated with persistence, and she used a story of canoe paddlers who kept striving until their tasks were completed, and that describes part of my personality. My name is actually a last name. As a tribute to my grandmotherʻs brother-in-law Daniel Kaloa, and her older sister, they raised my grandmother after my great-grandmother passed when my grandmother was very young..
I am excited to pursue this Council seat to represent District 3, which is a community – on an island, that I am passionate about. This opportunity to run and campaign for this Council seat isnʻt a journey that Iʻm taking lightly. I will work hard in helping my community, family, friends, neighbors, and constituents of this phenomenal District. I believe that the experiences, professional relationships, and skillsets that I have acquired thus far will serve me well in carrying out the work that will improve our District and Island. I also hope to proudly represent the numerous County and State workers who work hard everyday, knowing that their individual efforts collectively keeps this island functioning and moving forward. Mahalo nui!
